Summary: Being with Jack means having to get used to being in the spotlight.

'Would you mind posing for a couple of photos?' the young and rather overzealous photographer asked.

'Not at all,' Jack said, sweeping an arm around Ianto's waist and pulling him close to his side. 'Just make sure you take me from the left. The left has always been my best side.'

Ianto rolled his eyes at the comment. Jack knew perfectly well that he looked good from any angle and that no one would ever argue otherwise. Still, the photographer took his comments to heart and began angling his large  lens, adjusting the focus and taking a few test snaps just to confirm he was happy.

'Smile, Ianto,' Jack instructed him.

'I know what to do,' Ianto replied, trying to make his reply as sardonic and dry as possible. Whether he wanted to do it was another matter entirely. He managed a half-hearted smile for a few agonising clicks of the camera.

'That's great,' the photographer said. 'Now if we could just get a few of you with the family, that would be awesome.'

'I really don't think-' Ianto began, thinking how awkward it might be to be involved in some royal family portrait.

The downside of being with Jack, if there was one, seemed to be that everywhere they went, Ianto was now just as much in the spotlight as his far less camera shy counterpart. Jack loved the attention, and he seemed to love it even more to be able to show Ianto off. Affairs like this one at the palace - whilst politically always good for them since their entire existence was propped up by Crown funding - meant they were being constantly exposed to people Ianto couldn't even imagine meeting in his wildest dreams. Even meeting the Queen that first time  had been a harrowing affair, but now they were becoming regular invitees to functions of all kinds. Jack got excited by the break in routine, where Ianto would much rather an afternoon in the archives.

Jack's hand around him gripped tighter, not allowing him to escape as several of Buckingham Palace's key figures clustered around. He prayed these weren't media shots - the Royals showing their progressiveness by being photographed with the handsome gay couple. Not that they were like that at all. Everyone had been nothing but incredibly warm towards him. They seemed to like the idea that Jack had someone there to temper his worst impulses these days. Behind closed doors Ianto was more than happy with where their relationship was at. How it was perceived in the public eye however, was still a work in progress. And what a tabloid magazine might make of it, schmoozing up to the royals was more than he could cope with.

'Relax, Ianto,' Jack chided him, feeling how tense he'd become next to him. 'Stop worrying and just enjoy living in the moment. I want you perfect so that I can ask them for a copy of this photo to get it framed for you as a birthday present.'

Jack does love being the centre of attention while Ianto would rather keep to the background, but a copy of the photo for themselves would be lovely =)

He'll learn to get used to it. It's hard to drag Jack out of the spotlight so you just have to go with it and wear shades.
