Notes: Jack's attempts to talk down a potentially hostile alien go awry. A double drabble.

Owen struggled to pick himself up out of the sticky pile of goop. It seemed determined to keep him glued to the road, and there was plenty of it. 'Well, that's suitably disgusting,' he said, rubbing a sticky arm across his face to remove the worst of it. He had to reach down and help Jack up since he was flat on his back and virtually unable to move from his own attachment to the road, splayed out like a starfish from the explosion.

'Thanks,' Jack said, orange gunge dripping from his hair. 'Didn't see that coming. I thought negotiations were going well.'

'If by well you mean having the alien go kamikaze on us and explode, then sure, you were doing a sterling job.' Owen tried to shake the goop from his jacket but it was stuck fast. No chance Ianto was letting them back in the SUV.

'Come to think of it, I may have mistranslated that last bit,' Jack confessed. 'I think I used the word prison when I meant sanctuary. Kinda similar in pronunciation, assuming you can pronounce them at all. Didn't know they could spontaneously explode like that.'

'And so we've learned two things today.'
