Summary: Jack is going to make sure everything is perfect.
Jack couldn't suppress the stupid smile that played across his face as he woke up, finding Ianto there next to him, still asleep. He looked so peaceful and perfect, but it was the hand that curled around the edge of the pillow tucked under his head that caught Jack's eye. There was the ring for all to see - the ring that declared Ianto was his forever - and the one on his own hand that declared he belonged to Ianto in much the same way. Funny how such a tiny little thing could hold so much meaning.
Ianto stirred, blue eyes cracking open to face Jack.
'Good morning, husband,' Jack said, loving how good that sounded. It was going to be his new favourite word for a long time to come and he planned on using it as often as he could. It was better than Ianto, better than coffee, even better than fiancé. Husband. A nice way of saying, mine.
Yesterday had been such a whirlwind of emotions that Jack could scarcely remember any of the details. He knew he would remember with time - the ceremony, the faces of the friends and family who'd watched on as the celebrant talked about the sanctity of marriage, slipping that all important ring on Ianto's hand, finally being allowed to kiss him, and all the celebrations that followed. But for now, it was just the sheer excitement of the day that had overshadowed everything else. This was day one of the rest of their lives.
'Good morning,' Ianto said, a little smile creeping across his own face. Jack wished he'd used the word back, but that was okay. Ianto was never one to mince words. Every syllable was a gift.
Jack watched as Ianto snuggled back down into the pillow, ready to drift back off to sleep. There was no sudden whisking off to tropical islands for the honeymoon, nor was there a fancy hotel and the scent of unfamiliar linen. A few days of just being together in the comfort of their own home, before finally packing and jetsetting for the real thing. There was a poorly timed UNIT conference right in the middle, between wedding and honeymoon, that couldn't be avoided, but that was days away yet. Just having time off together was nice, and knowing they could stay there without interruption was even better. They had everything they needed right here.
'I can't believe we're finally married,' Jack said, unable to keep from smiling as he reached out and stroked Ianto's cheek. He didn't think he'd be any less excited by the time they reached London and the conference, happily advertising that Ianto was officially off the market and tethered to Jack.
'One for the scrapbook,' Ianto replied.
'Do you want me to make us some breakfast?' Jack offered. He was imagining pancakes with maple syrup and blueberries. And lots of Ianto's coffee. After all the champagne they'd drunk last night, he could do with something substantial and caffeinated. Whether that would also settle the butterflies in his stomach was another matter.
'I thought you'd want to stay here a while longer,' Ianto replied, reaching across and wrapping an arm around Jack's waist under the duvet.
'We can always come back here after breakfast.'
Ianto grinned at that suggestion. 'I like the sound of that.'
'Yep, a big hearty breakfast so that we won't need anything else until dinner at least,' Jack confirmed. That implied they wouldn't be leaving the bed for a very long time and that Jack intended on expending a lot of energy.
Ianto sighed. 'A pity not every day of married life is going to be like this.'
'Maybe not,' Jack confessed. 'But day one at least can be absolutely perfect.'
