Notes: Jack wishes he could separate his work and personal lives. A double drabble.

Jack wished that coming here today had come from a good place - that he was worried about his daughter and, more importantly, grandson. Kids did not just start simultaneously chanting all across the planet without something being very wrong. Turning up on Alice's doorstep however, would merely remind her that her father was not like other fathers. Every reminder that he was Torchwood just reopened old wounds between them. Her mother had come to despise him, and she'd grown up hardly having ever seen her father until she'd been in her thirties, and well past needing a father figure in her life.

She'd welcomed him in, made him tea, and for five whole minutes they'd pretended that things between them were okay. They both loved that little boy, even if his grandfather looked about the right age to be his father.

Then Jack had ruined the moment. He'd come here with only one purpose - he needed a child, so that they could begin trying to understand what was happening and why. Alice saw straight through his ruse and sent him packing. She looked hurt that he'd even considered taking Stephen to experiment on him. Lucia was right. He never change.
