Summary: Trusting anyone in King's Landing is a dangerous course of action. A double drabble.

Petyr couldn't fail but smirk as he watched Varys slide across the sandstone tiles towards him. The eunuch seemed to float rather than walk, just another quirk that made him less of a man than all the others. Without even asking Petyr knew that he was only after information. Little birds and spiders were all well and good for reporting the inner workings of King's Landing, but Petyr knew that coin made a man more loyal than any serving girl or street urchin.

'Lord Baelish,' Varys greeted him smoothly, hands tucked inside his wide sleeves.

'Varys,' Petyr replied, letting him make the first move.

'How is our new Hand settling in?'

'Far too honorable and trustworthy to survive long.'

Varys studied him with a quiet air. 'I expect you have ingratiated yourself already?'

'I told him not to trust anybody in King's Landing, and in doing so, earned his confidence.'

Varys nodded. 'Good advice. A pity our Hand chose you as the one he should trust, however.'

Petyr chuckled. 'Do not feel offended, Varys. I doubt anyone should trust a eunuch, least of all you.'

Varys nodded, accepting the reality. 'Yet more pity. Kings should reign longer if they did.'
