Notes: Gwen is unaccustomed to Torchwood's definition of messing up. A double drabble.

When Jack came over to her desk Gwen wanted to sink into the floor and disappear. Her first forty-eight hours as a Torchwood agent - probationary, she assumed - had not gone well in her estimation.

Sure, they'd managed to capture and kill the alien gas thing she'd accidentally let loose from the crashed meteor, but not before a considerable number of innocent people had been killed. She'd never lost anyone when she'd been on the force, albeit she hadn't done any really tough scenes. She'd never been part of a riot squad, or out when they had protestors in the city centre. They had loads of serious injuries and callouts to paramedics. The closest  she'd come was that bar brawl just days ago, and the only one in need of hospitalization had been her.

'How you doing, Gwen Cooper?' Jack asked.

'I ballsed up,' she confessed. 'I'll understand completely if you're here to show me the door.'

Jack shrugged. 'We all screw up. We move on.'

She turned to face him. 'I shouldn't have snogged Carys. I broke every safety protocol.'

'So, you kissed an alien. Big deal. Last alien we had down there would have been insulted if you hadn't.'

Aliens, you just never really know what's an insult to them and what isn't!
