Challenge 603 - Standard induction

Notes: It's going to take some work before Rex is ready for whatever Torchwood can throw at him. A double drabble.

'Don't drop that!' Jack called out from behind.

Rex fumbled with the artifact in his hand, flailing for one panicked moment until he had it safely back in his grip, clutching it to his body. He belw out a relieved breath.

'Careful there, butterfingers,' Jack said, smirking. 'Don't be getting clumsy with important Torchwood stuff. Otherwise I might have to change my mind about keeping you on here.'

Rex gritted his teeth. 'I won't if some World War Two peanut doesn't sneak up on me like that,' he replied, scowling at the Torchwood leader. 'What is this piece of junk, anyway?'

'If I told you, that'd take all the fun out of it,' Jack teased. 'That's the best part of this job. Finding stuff you have no clue about and figuring out what it does.'

Rex grunted. 'Sounds like a job for the eggheads,' he said, frowning at the object on the desk.

'The eggheads prefer if you don't call them that,' Ianto said, appearing at Jack's side. 'Especially since the eggheads are also trained in weaponry and hand-to-hand combat.'

'Your first assignment, Rex,' Jack announced. 'Figure this one out and maybe I'll let you play with some real toys.'
