Summary: Trying to explain mainframe's eccentricities is difficult. A double drabble.
Tosh reached out and slapped Owen's hand away. 'Don't touch,' she commanded, even as Owen was pulling his hand away and scowling at where she'd slapped the back of it.
'Steady on,' Owen grumbled. 'I was only coming to see how you were getting on. Didn't think I was going to get physically assaulted.' If he'd wanted to get whacked, he'd have hung around with Jack, or meddled with Teaboy's precious coffee machine.
'These annual diagnostics take time,' Tosh lectured. 'And they have to be perfect. That's means no interference from anyone.'
'I was only resting my hand on it,' Owen argued, amazed that Tosh could be so paranoid. He nudged the base of the huge machine with his sneaker, watching the lights scrolling up and down its surface.
'Stop that!' Tosh scolded.
'What?'
'Mainframe is very sensitive. Even the slightest touch could mess up our diagnostic readings.'
Owen snorted. 'You make out like it's alive or has feelings or something.'
'It does,' Tosh insisted. 'At least, I think it does,' she added, sounding less confident. 'Jack says it's been augmented by unknown alien technology.'
'A computer with feelings? Great, that's all we need.'
'Just be nice, okay?' Tosh pleaded.
