Summary: Jack knows he has to face his punishment like a man. A double drabble.
Jack stared at the hole in the ground. It must have taken John hours to dig it so deep. Under different circumstances he might have even found a joke in there about John's hands being too delicate for such a task.
He could barely make out the bottom. No one would be accidentally digging him back up from that depth. As much as he dreaded what came next he knew that some part of him deserved this. It had always been coming for him, that punishment he was meant to serve for letting go of Gray's hand. All those thousands of deaths he'd died in his lifetime but none of them was punishment enough for the thirty years of torture those creatures had subjected his little brother to. The happy little boy Jack remembered was gone, replaced with this broken, vindictive- No, he wouldn't call him a monster.
He still loved Gray. He still needed to make this right. It might take days or months or even years, but somewhere along the line Gray would come back for him and tell him he'd suffered enough. Gray would forgive him and Jack would never let Gray leave his side ever again.
