Challenge 609 - Focused

Notes: Jack's duty transcends any personal discomfort. A double drabble.

'Is everybody okay?' Jack calls out.

From the smoking rubble inside the now destroyed factory, he receives their affirmations one by one. Apart from a layer of sooty dust there isn't a scratch on any of them, which is remarkable to say the least. The same however can't be said for Jack. At the last moment he refused to leave, still determined to disarm the alien bomb. His efforts were in vain as the place erupted around him, destroying everything in its wake. You win some and you lose some.

The explosion of course has now attracted the attention of the police, the fire brigade and a small army of paramedic and ambulance vehicles. Fortunately the area was cleared by Torchwood beforehand and so there's nothing for them to do but idle around, rolling out yellow police tape to cordon off the area and hold at bay curious journalists.

For Torchwood there's still work to be done though, and Jack is leading the charge as always. The fireball ruined his clothes so he's wandering about in nothing but his underpants, socks and boots. He's completely ridiculous, carrying on like nothing is wrong, but the team respect him just the same.
