Summary: Tosh wishes that, just for once, Owen would stop breaking his promises to her.
Tosh stormed through the hospital corridors, completely oblivious to the nurses and random people she slalomed around in her haste to locate the right ward. In her hand she still had her phone gripped to her ear as she attempted to listen to the calming voice on the other end of the line.
'You're telling me you had no idea,' Tosh said, unfairly angry at the person on the other end of the line.
'I would never have sanctioned this, you know that,' Ianto replied in that same level voice he'd always used to quell Jack's temper when it began to fray at the edges. 'In fact, he continued on, 'had I known, I would have driven straight down there myself and strangled him.'
Tosh chewed the inside of her lip as she paused to consider the signage on the wall, following the vague arrows that seemed not to point in any helpful direction. 'No strangling required, Ianto. I'll do that myself.'
'I think the nurses may stop you,' he warned her.
She gave an irate little huff. 'That depends on how much he's already annoyed them.'
'Call me if you need anything.'
She snapped her phone shut and whisked past the nurses station, having finally navigated their maze. She strode towards the thin blue curtain and whipped it back to reveal her boyfriend lying in the bed covered in cuts and bruises.
'Oh, hello, love,' Owen said.
'Don't you "hello, love" me, Owen Harper,' she seethed, hands set firmly on her hips. 'What the hell were you thinking going out there?'
Owen struggled to sit up, given how everything hurt. 'It was just one little hoix.'
'We have teams to handle these things,' Tosh lectured. 'You didn't even take so much as a single other officer with you for backup. I can't believe how stupid that is. And you of all people!'
'By the time I'd have briefed a unit, it'd have snuck away, or at least eaten someone.'
'Instead it just tried to eat you.' She sank down onto the edge of the bed, clasping his bandaged hand. 'You promised me, Owen. No more fieldwork. I've lost you twice already. I couldn't live with losing you again.'
'Once a field agent...' Owen began.
'I gave it up, too, remember? We agreed.' Torchwood was different now. It had structure, it had purpose. Moreover, it had a lot more people. Their job was to coordinate their respective divisions -research and development and medical science. She quite liked the promotion, even if it meant she didn't see Jack, Ianto and Gwen every day now she was based at qtheir London branch with Owen.
'You never loved fieldwork. You just liked watching me.'
'Only part true. Mostly there wasn't time for gawking. And you were obnoxious.'
Owen smirked. 'Not obnoxious enough that you didn't still fall for me. I'm sorry,' he added. 'If I promised never to do anything stupid again, would you believe me?
Tosh snorted. 'You wouldn't be Owen, then.'
