Summary: Ianto has a cunning strategy for keeping Jack in bed.
Jack tossed in bed again, knowing that as he did so, he would be waking up Ianto. He couldn't help it though. Sleep was evading him and no amount of counting sheep was going to help.
'Ianto, can you budge over so I can get out?' he asked, tugging the blanket off.
'Why?' Ianto muffled through sleepy lips.
'Can't sleep. Thought I'd get up and do some work.'
Ianto tugged the blanket back into place. 'Or you could just stay and go back to sleep.'
'I tried that already.'
'Well, I'm not getting up so you'll just have to stay there.'
'No, it's fine,' Jack insisted. 'I'll just go upstairs and work for a bit.'
'You'll have to crawl over me to get out of bed for a start.'
'I don't have to crawl over you. I can always slide down to the end and get out that way. It just felt like the polite thing to ask you nicely if you could let me get out, since I woke you.'
Ianto refused to turn over and look at him. 'The polite thing would have been not to wake me at all.'
Jack groaned. 'It's going to be one of those nights where you want to be difficult, isn't it?'
'Not at all. You're most welcome to get up if you'd rather be up in your office ploughing through reports and doing tedious research than staying snug in bed with me.'
'You make me sound so cold and callous.'
'Can't resist copping a feel during that day when you shouldn't, but given the chance to spend all night together and you get restless.'
'I'm not used to being tied down in a relationship.'
'Well, by all means go up there and work through the wee hours of the morning whilst I snooze down here. Of course there is the slight problem of me having unplugged your computer.'
Jack froze. 'You what?'
'And your phone. Not that I can think of a single person who would want to take a call from you at...' he leaned over to get the exact time off the digital clock, '...3.42 in the morning.'
'It's not like I couldn't just plug them back in.'
'Yeah, but I know you. You're a path of least resistance kind of guy. And I stole the extension cord that keeps your monitor running.'
'Now who's the cold one?'
'I prefer the term diabolically-minded.'
Jack flopped back down in the bed beside Ianto, wrapping his arms around him so tight it was almost uncomfortable for the young man. 'It's a lot of effort to go to when all you had to do was beg me to stay here with you.'
'I wasn't that much effort. And it's beneath me to grovel. Especially to you.'
Jack sunk his teeth into Ianto's shoulder, but not before uttering the word "cheeky" and then nuzzling as close as he could. He could live with being needed that much, and the paperwork wasn't going anywhere.
