Jack could tell from the look on Ianto's face that he was about to give someone a bollocking.

‘Sian!’ He rarely raised his voice at the kids but this was definitely a voice-raising event. Jack was just glad Ianto had gotten there before him.

The contrite nine year old forced herself to meet his gaze.

‘I can't believe you just slapped your sister!’ Eleri, to her credit, hadn't screamed or cried. She was internalising her anger and distress just like her dad. ‘If I ever catch you doing that again it'll be straight into the naughty corner for an hour.’

‘She stole Mark!’ Sian argued. ‘He was my friend!’

‘I didn't steal him!’

Sian stuck her sister again. ‘Liar!’

‘Right!’ Ianto boomed. ‘Over there right now,’ he commanded, pointing to the empty corner of the room. She trudged over and flopped angrily to the floor.

‘Now's probably not the time to mention I scratched your car picking up those, er… ahem, toys,’ Jack confessed.

Ianto pointed without words, still looking furious, and Jack joined his daughter.

‘So… You and me, huh?’

‘It was worth it,’ Sian replied, with enough gumption to make Jack proud. ‘What about you?’

‘Yeah,’ he agreed.
