Summary: Jack has to show Gwen that there's a silver lining to everything. A double drabble.

The look on Gwen's face was so utterly dejected that Jack didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He suspected if he started laughing he'd end up crying anyway. There was just no getting over the fact that seeing Gwen covered from head to toe in bright pink slime was anything less than highly amusing.

He opted for the safe middle ground, wrapping her in a hug and sharing in the slime that covered her front, staining his pale blue shirt beyond salvation. It smelled absolutely rank, but it was worth the sacrifice. ‘Don't beat yourself up, Gwen. It was obviously nearing the end of its life or it wouldn't have exploded.’

‘There was no warning,’ she replied. ‘Was there really nothing we could have done to save it?’

Jack felt bad for her. Only a few months with Torchwood and she'd already seen and experienced more than Owen and Tosh had in their first year combined. Suicidal aliens was just one more experience to add to the list.

‘You know,’ Jack began, pulling away before the slime glued them together permanently, ‘it's supposed to bring good fortune if one explodes all over you. And it's great for the skin.’
