Summary: Tosh won't let difficulty get in the way of ambition. A double drabble.


Jack was curious as to why he could still hear computer keys clacking away at nine o'clock at night. Peering out through the window behind his desk he saw Tosh was still working. He sighed. One of these days he'd convince her to go home at some reasonable hour. He pushed himself up from the desk and went to give her a non-negotiable captain's order.

'Tosh, go home. Whatever you're working on will still be there tomorrow.'

'Just give me another hour,' she replied, eyes fixed on the computer screen. 'I'm finally making some headway.'

Jack leaned his hip against the edge of the desk. 'Headway on what?'

'A program that might help us predict when the rift will be active.'

'Predicting the rift?' Jack snorted. 'That's impossible. You might as well pull out your crystal ball.'

'Not impossible,' she replied. 'Just… well, there's a lot of parameters to consider, which makes the permutations almost infinite, but…' she pushed her glasses back up her nose. 'We have a lot of historical data which makes building prediction models for analysing rift behaviour more… well, predictable.'

Jack shook his head at her brilliance. 'Predicting the rift, huh? Now there's a concept.'
