Summary: Something has come a long way to meet Jack and Gwen. A double drabble.
Jack wandered slowly around the object that had made itself at home in the backyard of a crumbling council estate house. It was large and made of some kind of hybrid rock and metal, either to disguise it as a meteor, or a really bad attempt at making it look like a proper spaceship.
'Ever seen anything like it?' Gwen asked, taking pictures of it with her phone, careful not to get too close. She'd learned her lesson about getting too close to spade debris until they knew more about it.
Jack thrust his hands in his pockets. 'Nope.'
'Any idea where it's from?' Not that she thought it would make a difference knowing. It wasn't like saying it was from Surrey or Leicester and then expecting it to behave in a certain way.
'Some distant star in some distant part of space and time,' Jack said, going all philosophical on her.
'Helpful,' she muttered.
Jack grinned at her. 'Cheer up, Gwen Cooper. Life would be boring if we knew everything. If it weren't for the rift, we'd never even get to experience something so alien. Doesn't that excite you?'
She rolled her eyes. 'Okay, you got me. I'm excited.'
