And so it continues...

A whole month after it was all over the internet, Big Finish finally decided to email me (their loyal pre-order customer) to tell me what I already knew. IT DOES NOT TAKE A MONTH AND IT'S HARDLY AN APOLOGY.
Feel free to get in touch with them and let them know your feelings. #teambarrowman

Date: 2021-06-26 03:56 am (UTC)I get that they're beholden to BBC as the licensor. They could have simply released that email way earlier. As it was it was really hard to find the announcement that other websites had picked up on because it was buried deep in one of their news updates. Even when I went looking for it it took ages to find. Not like they didn't have all our email addresses and purchase history.

Date: 2021-06-27 08:20 am (UTC)For me the strange one was when they pulled the new Titan Comic, though I can only rationalise that if it was indeed a tie in with a filmed episode and they've since had to rewrite and reshoot parts to remove the actor that this is why it got pulled. Otherwise we're saying that anything including a character portrayed by a particular actor has to be withdrawn which makes no sense. If the actor receives no remuneration for it because they're not involved in the production, then it should be okay. You can't help that a character looks like someone from real life. So yes, potentially Big Finish might halt recording any further Captain Jack scripts until the BBC close out their investigation, assuming such a thing happens. You can bet the lawyers on both sides are keen to draw a conclusion and the implications for the franchise's future.

Date: 2021-06-26 03:59 am (UTC)Blame BBC Worldwide Distribution sitting up on their high moral soapbox. They'll have all their licensees (Big Finish, Titan Comics etc) over a barrel, telling them their licences will be torn up if they release anything Barrowman/Captain Jack related whilst this whole stoush carries on. BBC don't care that their licensees will be losing major profits over works already produced and paid for.
