Summary: Jack's return to Cardiff has left a few questions hanging in the air.

Ianto's suggestion that Jack come home with him in the aftermath of John Hart's exit from their lives had been a knee-jerk reaction. It just made sense that if they needed to avoid themselves for fourteen hours that the one place Ianto knew they would be was at home in bed. It was where he'd wished he'd been fourteen hours ago, not running around trying to prevent a psychopath from blowing them all to kingdom come. Nothing in his life could ever be simple, could it? What had started out a reasonably ordinary day had ended with Jack's return to their lives, a gun pointed at his head and the kind of treasure hunt around Cardiff that he could have done without.

He tried to act normal as he padded around his bedroom, pulling out a spare pair of pajamas and throwing them at Jack as if no time at all had passed between them. His brain was spinning a million miles an hour getting used to the idea that Jack really had come back after months of being absent without so much as an explanation. At the same time, he really did just want to crawl into bed, regardless of what Jack wanted. He was still trying to unpack Jack's words, things like "I came back for you" and his offer to take them out on a proper date.

'There's a new toothbrush in the bathroom cabinet,' he told Jack, happy to let him have it even if he'd only bought it last week to replace the one he had whose bristles were now too worn and bent out of shape. He'd buy another one to replace it tomorrow.

'Thanks.'

Ianto left him to it, switching off the bedside lamp and shuffling under the duvet, sinking his head into the pillow. A few minutes later, he felt Jack join him in bed. He stayed silent, pretending he was asleep. He wanted to sleep desperately but his mind had other ideas.

'I meant it before,' Jack said, voice just inches away in the darkness and ignoring Ianto's feigning of sleep. 'I did come back for you.'

'Maybe you shouldn't have left in the first place then,' he murmured back, hoping that wasn't too offending a thing to say.

'It wasn't how I planned it,' Jack replied. 'I waited over a century for the Doctor to return and find me.' There was a little sigh. 'And he was just gonna leave without me. Like I was nothing. I mean, we're okay now. All a bit of a misunderstanding,' he added, trying to cover over what felt like thinly veiled disappointment. Ianto knew of the Doctor but not what relationship he and Jack might have had. It sounded reasonably one-sided.

Ianto moved closer under the covers, pressing close to Jack's side. 'Well, you're not nothing to us, to us, the team. Owen would hate me saying it, but things just weren't the same without you.'

Jack wrapped arms around him. 'Or you.'
