Summary: Jack had inadvertently set himself a challenge. A double drabble.


Jack sighed at the beginning of yet another fruitless argument with his lover. 'I don't need to know how to speak Welsh.'

'You live in Wales. Of course you do.'

'There are plenty of people here who don't speak Welsh.'

'Yes, and they're all as lazy as you. You don't expect me to go travelling in space and expect everyone to be able to speak English just because it's convenient for me. At least here you can get an online course to learn Welsh. Where exactly am I supposed to learn an alien language? Babel?'

Jack internally rolled his eyes. He'd gotten by just fine for over a century without needing to know any Welsh. He wasn't about to change tact now.' If it's so common and so important to you, how come you always speak English, huh? I don't see you going around supporting the national language.'

Ianto's jaw clenched in determination. 'Fine. If that's the game you want to play, from now on we can do everything in Welsh. I'll just play dumb when you speak English. I hope you learn pretty quickly how to ask for a coffee, or it's going to be a long few weeks.'
