Summary: Jack is a personality and a half, but Ianto is finally ready to share him with his family.
'I'm going to go home and take a shower,' Jack announced as the clock ticked over to 5pm. He wasn't usually so fixated on the time, let alone being punctual, but tonight was different. Tonight Ianto had committed to bringing Jack around to his sister's for tea after months of skirting around it and making excuses. 'Slip into something more comfortable. Get ready for the big night,' he added. 'I'm so excited to finally be meeting your family. And nervous. Nervous and excited.' He actually did look nervous, which was a strange look on Jack.
He wasn't the only one. Ianto was just as nervous about finally bringing Jack over to face his nutter family. But Jack was special to him and if there was one thing he'd learned, special didn't come around all that often and life was far too short not to make every moment of it count. They'd already nearly lost each other the day the 456 arrived on Earth. They'd been separated, come together again, fixed what was broken between them and now life was back to how it should be. Or better.
It had seemed only fair to warn his sister about Jack before she actually met him. After all, all she had to go on were Tina's over the top comments that Jack was some kind of film star or escort. Not to mention the weeks Ianto had spent at his sister's house hiding out from the government and Jack in equal measure. He'd since smoothed things over with his sister regarding the reasons why he'd needed space from Jack and his bundle of uncovered secrets.
It wasn't so much Jack's physical appearance that Ianto was worried about. He was gorgeous and there was no changing that. It was whether Ianto's family would be able to cope with the man himself. Jack's personality took some getting used to. Not everyone was as immune to Jack's outgoing nature.
Then again, Jack was also somewhat insecure. He'd been the captain for so long you'd think he couldn't be anything else, but it was a false pretense. It was sometimes more like he didn't know who he was if he wasn't the captain. Ianto had seen first hand just how much Jack's demeanour could change without his coat and his usual clothes; he was only half the man Ianto had grown to love. His clothes had indelibly become a part of him. He was a real character to be sure, and not to everyone's taste perhaps, but underneath all the smiles and the bravado, there was a big heart and an immense capacity to love.
'Don't go to too much trouble,' Ianto told him. 'Just be yourself.'
Jack looked down and tugged at the edge of his coat. 'I can wear something else,' he replied. 'Black jeans, a nice sweater…' he seemed to Ianto to be suddenly self conscious about appearing too ostentatious.
'You're perfect just as you are. I wouldn't want you to be anyone else.'
