Summary: Jack finally has to face up to what is sure to be certain death. A double drabble.
Jack cast a glance at the countdown clocks now lit up all around the hub. It was hard to wrap his brain around the fact that they were all ticking ever downwards and marking his ultimate demise. He was too busy worrying about how Gwen and Ianto were going to get out of here safely in the limited time left.
So, he finally thought, watching the invisible lift carry his lover away from death and destruction, this is how it finally ends. He'd died so many times and in so many ways, but never anything as brutal and explosive as this.
He'd always wanted to be able to go out with a bang, but hadn't necessarily meant to do so in the literal sense. As reassuring as he'd tried to be in front of his friends, he knew deep down that there was probably no coming back from this. Exploded into a million fragments, burned, melted, incinerated, and scattered. It didn't sound pleasant and it surely wouldn't be painless either. A split second of purest agony and then what? Nothing presumably. Just his death, finally after so long. Just when he'd finally decided that living was better than inglorious death.
