Summary: Suzie can't understand why they're not off in pursuit. A double drabble.
Jack and Suzie pulled up the SUV just in time as the small alien containment unit began breaking apart. Jack had warned her that might happen. A trip through the rift was one thing, but a trip through Earth's atmosphere was more than most basic metals could withstand.
Before they could even alight from the vehicle, it burst open, spilling out a cloud of sparkling tiny creatures that flew into the air and moved as a single cloud. It glittered red, then yellow, blue, green and purple in a dizzying flood of colour.
Jack got out and whistled. 'Isn't that a beautiful sight to see? Almost as good as a firebird, but not quite.'
'They're getting away,' Suzie said, watching them speed off along Castle Street. 'Aren't we going to give chase?' Not that she knew what they should use to contain them, or how to capture them in the first instance. A standard Torchwood butterfly net wouldn't be nearly fine enough. And there was the small matter of them being airborne. Jack appeared far too relaxed for the gravity of the situation.
'Nah. They only live for about three hours. Just enjoy the magic of it while it lasts.'
