Summary: Gilly is enjoying their voyage south far more than Sam.
Gilly stared wide-eyed out over the side of the boat as it bobbed. The motion was enough to make Sam feel sick and they hadn't even left yet. Gods alone knew what it would be like out there in the Narrow Sea.
'It's so huge,' Gilly said, clutching her baby boy to her chest. 'I never imagined the ocean would be so big. It's like all the forests put together and bigger.'
Sam swallowed down the bike trying to worm its way up his throat. 'This isn't the ocean yet, Gilly. This is just the bay.' Eastwatch by Sea had a small sheltered cliff where it nudged the Wall, sparing them the worst of the open currents as they finished loading supplies for the long journey south. Sam had always thought Castle Black was bleak, but it was nothing compared to Eastwatch.
Even with stops along the way, it was a long voyage to Bravvos for their first resupply. Sam was regretting agreeing to this, no matter how much he wanted to be a Maester for the Night's Watch and to keep Gilly safe.
'I like it,' Gilly declared. 'It's much better than snow.'
Sam wished his stomach would agree.
