So I called up the three furniture stores today to find out if my furniture is on its way (all three promised mid Jan), which I bought back in mid November.

The bed store told me they were still waiting on the second bed suite (they had it on the day I bought it and have obviously now sold it to someone else, as it was the two mattresses that were holding up my order originally).

The store with the coffee table and lamp table (which last week said they had both in stock on their website) said not until early Feb at least. Again, they've sold them to someone else rather than hold one back for me who had already paid.

The store for the lounge suite, armchairs, dining table, entertainment unit, bar stools and shelving display said everything was in except for the shelving display, and that I could get it delivered and assembled, but would have to pay another $120 delivery fee for the shelves when they arrive and an assembly fee, or drive a million miles to their warehouse and pick it up myself, knowing full well it's 2m long and won't fit in a car. It's also the most fiddly thing to assemble as it has drawers and shelves and is just generally huge and heavy which is why I paid for the assembly fee in the first place. So, ETA for everything now? March. Maybe. They say it's still overseas so who knows.

I feel like I'm being held to ransom. Everything is fully paid for and I have a house that for the last 4 months I haven't been able to live in. I feel like crying on the phone to them and telling them I'm stuck in an empty house with nothing but one sofa and that I feel practically homeless.

I am so sorry. All these supply line issues all over the world are so distressing when you are at their mercy.

Argh! What is it with stores selling things to other people when someone's already paid for them? How hard is it to put stuff aside marked as sold? I would definitely sob down the phone at them. It might not get you your furniture any faster, but you never know your luck, and at least then they'd know your situation and might try harder. I know there are supply chain issues, but they need to stop selling things you've already paid for!

I did sob to them today and luckily their regional manager was in the store so they agreed to meet me half way so I only have to pay $65 for the extra delivery (apparently it doesn't require any assembly so they can just dump and run and all mum and I will need to do is carry it into the house and down the hall; heavy but we'll manage), but means they'll deliver everything else by end of this month. Not a complete win, but at least I'll have some furniture. Beds might get here first week of Feb - that's my main relief once they're here, because you can actually stay over there. God knows at some point one or more of us is going to end up quarantined over there. Everyone is getting covid here now that there's no restrictions, but at least they're letting us work at home til the end of January at this stage. So many people from work have gotten it over the Christmas break. I just want to hunker down until we can get a booster at the end of Feb/early March, since apparently now two doses is not much better than being unvaxxed *sigh*

Well, at least that's something, although it sucks you have to pay extra at all. They should waive the entire extra delivery charge. So pleased you will at least be getting some furniture soon though, and something to sleep on.

Also glad you're being allowed to work from home for now. You're a lot safer that way.

I don't get my second jab until Friday, so I haven't gone anywhere since before Christmas. Going out at all is worrying. o_O

Oh my goodness — I can do nothing but sympathise — but wish I could go round and give them a piece of my mind.

I'd cancel all those orders and demand my money back. Then, find a friend with a truck whom you can go shopping with, buy what you need, and take it that day.

Would that it could be so simple! You'd be outraged to hear that the bed place you forfeit 30% of a cancelled order. It really is like the wild west out there in furniture land!
I had a slight win with them in that they agreed to halve the delivery fee so I can have the rest in 2-3 weeks, but I did have to put on a dog and pony show about how I was living in an empty house for months and had moved back into a one room at my parents (not entirely untruthful)

You ARE being held to ransom ...

But we have never lived through times like these.

True, but covid is also an excellent excuse to use to gloss over the fact that you just sold stuff out from under someone.
